NEW DELHI: Subhreet Kaur Ghumman, a 35-year-old, one-legged dancer in the second most populous state revived the way of thinking of people after making it to India’s Got Talent franchise.
Nurse-turned dancer, who belongs to Jhunda, a village in Sangrur district of Punjab, finished among the top-4 in India’s got talent season 5 in the year 2014 and proved that she will not let anything get in the way of achieving her dreams.
Ghumman has become a huge sensation after his inspirational story motivates many others who faced similar disabilities told she lost her father when she was 9.
Narrating the harrowing incident to a British tabloid, she revealed that the blunders of paramedics played a key role in the amputation of her left limb.
She got a fracture in her knee after skidding away from a friend’s scooter, but the negligence in the state-run medical facility was terrible as she was sent home to recover but Infection spread throughout her leg.
Later, she got a life-saving surgery for which she got a loan of 0.7 million from a bank. In total the inspirational dancer underwent seven surgeries before she walks again.
Sharing her life before the mishap, she said ‘My parents wanted me to study so I worked hard to become a nurse but the accident changed my life as it not only took my key body part but it gave me the determination to fulfill my dreams.’
In 2014, she got hitched with her gym instructor – Yash Makkar. The hoofer initially gushed about the marriage but later things took a turn as she divorced Makkar within less than two months after she came to know that the man was a fraud who was just interested in her earnings and property.
Recently, a clip of a disabled dance went viral as she another time has won the hearts of millions. A video of her grooving has garnered more than 28 million views on Facebook.
