NEW DELHI: Microblogging site Twitter permanently suspended the account of Indian actor and activist Kangana Ranaut citing multiple violations of policy.
The Queen actor account, with over 3 million followers, was permanently banned after highlighting post-election violence in West Bengal. The account of the 34-year-old B.Town diva repetitively breached the Twitter policy on hateful conduct and abusive behavior.
Speaking about the stern action, a spokesperson of the social site said the account of the Bollywood actor has been banned for multiple violations. We’ve been clear that we will take sturdy action on such activities that can possibly lead to offline harm.
In the recent tweets, the Marquee owner had demanded presidential rule in West Bengal after Mamata Banerjee, CM West Bengal, bags the recent elections against Modi-led fascist BJP. The outspoken artist urged Indian PM Modi to “tame” Banerjee using his “Virat Roop” from the “early 2000s” in Bengal.
Soon after the contentious tweet, it draws public ire and sparked outrage among the masses and the tweeple called for action against her intense vision.
The Bollywood star is no new to hot debates and controversies. This is not the first ban on Twitter as earlier this year, she was suspended following a provocative tweet against Amazon’s Tandav.
Responding to the Twitter suspension, Ranaut took to the photo-sharing platform Instagram where she called out international bodies to look into the ongoing massacre in West Bengal. Expressing displeasure and denouncing the extreme measure, she termed the event as “death of democracy”.
