Beijing – A Chinese tourist left clinging on a glass-bottomed bridge after it was moderately shattered by gale-force winds.
According to the Chinese local tourism department of Piyan Mountain in Longjing city, the incident occurred at 12:45 pm on Friday when winds of around 150 kilometers per hour hit the 100-meter-high bridge. The gale reportedly shattered the glass bridge while the ill-fated man can be seen clinging to the railing.
The glass-bottomed bridge of the Piyan Mountain Cultural Tourism Scenic Area is a prominent tourist spot.
Reports in Chinese media stated that a rescue operation was started to save the stuck tourist, who was able to evacuate the bridge at 1:20 pm.
A statement issued by the Chinese officials said the staffers rushed to rescue at the earliest and successfully transferred the trapped person to a safe area while no casualties were reported during the operation.
The rescued man who spent some time in a medical facility for observation was later discharged after he got stable. Following the terrifying event, the entire scenic area has been closed for the general public and management has started a probe to find the safety failure.
The event has alarmed the tourists to walk on a glass-bottomed bridge as many posted about the scenario and termed it a nightmare.
Let it be known that glass bridges in scenic spots are quite popular among tourists. China also holds the title for the new 526-meter-long structure in Qingyuan, Guangdong, which holds the Guinness World Record for the longest glass-bottom bridge.
