Saudi Arabia to build King Salman mosque at Islamic University Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: President International Islamic University Islamabad Saturday announced that the custodian of the Two Holy Mosques has decided to fund King Salman bin Abdul Aziz grand mosque at public research university.

Following the announcement of Dr. Hathal Homoud Alotaibi, Special Aide to Prime Minister on Interfaith Harmony Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi also confirmed the establishment of a mosque under Pak-Saudi friendship.

The project will be another monument between the two countries and lead to better progress in the bilateral relations, Ashrafi further added.

Reports in local media suggest that the grand mosque being established at the new campus of the International Islamic University will have the capacity to accommodate nearly 10,000 men and 2,000 women. The initial cost of the mosque is around Rs. 500 million, however, with the establishment of the modern facilities the cost will increase.

University rector, Dr. Masoom Yasinzai, while speaking about the mega project said this is not just going to be a mosque but will have a huge complex with research and cultural center for scholars and students. It will also have a library, a museum, and an auditorium named after Mohammed bin Salman.

The center will focus on the Arabic language, Islamic culture, and heritage and as per the plan, it will also be equipped with digital technology to provide online Arabic courses from Islamabad to the whole world. World-class researchers from various countries would also contribute to academics. Yasinzai added.

Let it be known that Prime Minister Imran Khan will visit Saudi Arabia this week on the invitation of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. The premier will meet the secretary-general of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and Saudi top officials during his visit to the kingdom. Khan will also perform Umrah during his visit.
