Rohail Hyatt, Jawad Ahmad trade blows on Twitter over PM Imran’s statement about blaming ‘obscenity for rape’

LAHORE: Prime Minister Imran Khan blunt’s statement about obscenity and rape cases has sparked an outcry in Pakistan as many slammed the premier while others support him saying that the statements had been taken out of context.

Pakistan’s most celebrated musician and coke studio founder Rohail Hyatt wrote a thread stating that the Khan’s comments about vulgarity and increasing rape in Pakistan have been taken out of context.

“I believe Imran Khan’s words have been taken out of context and a big ruckus created by the so-called champions of freedom and liberty. He’s clearly condemning rape and giving a message that going out of the boundaries of modesty invites trouble, and who can deny this fact?” Hyatt wrote in a recent tweet.

Soon after his tweet, singer-turned-politician Jawad Ahmad, who is in quarantine nowadays, called Hyatt’s tweet as stupid.

Taking it to Twitter, the Barabri Party Pakistan Chairman wrote “Why are you talking stupid? Will you tell us which dresses are modest and which are not?” the Mehendi singer lashed out. “Will you get into your child’s wardrobe and point out which dress once worn would keep her safe in society? What if a dress you choose is still disapproved by the majority?”

Meanwhile, Hyatt referring to the situation with his offspring wrote, As a father, I’d give the same advice to my child to be mindful of how you dress in our society. Not because I want to give in to the sickness, but because I care for the person I’m giving the advice to.”

He further added that as I am stupid and you’re wise, you can say wise things. See there’s balance in the universe. Something to be appreciated perhaps?”

And the verbal spat among the two continues, here are the other tweets from the series.
