Punjab all set to roll out door-to-door Covid vaccination drive

LAHORE: The authorities in the most populous province have decided to roll out door-to-door Covid vaccination campaign in five districts from Monday [July 26].

According to the report of the Associated Press of Pakistan, the acute decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Provincial Minister for Health Dr. Yasmin Rashid and Chief Secretary Punjab.

The door-to-door vaccination drive will be initially launched in the provincial capital Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, Gujranwala, and Rawalpindi districts. The vaccination team will consist of a medical expert, a data operator, and a vaccinator.

PTI leader and provincial Health Minister Dr. Yasmin Rashid while speaking about the development said that the country’s top monitoring body [NCOC] had given the target to the Punjab government to vaccinate 40 percent population of all adults [over 18 years of age] against the deadly disease by August 14.

“Similarly, there is a target to immunize 70 percent population of over 18 years of age in Rawalpindi by August 14,” she further added.

Rashid while urging masses to get inoculated against Covid-19 said “these were the only ways through which people could save themselves from the novel coronavirus”.

Meanwhile, the Punjab Chief Secretary Jawad Rafique Malik, on the occasion, directed the concerned authorities to ensure the targets given by the National Command and Operations Centre were met. Malik also ordered to formulate vaccination camps in the vicinity of all teaching hospitals.

Primary and Secondary Healthcare Secretary Sarah Aslam also briefed the meeting of provincial authorities. She revealed that the “department had prepared a micro plan for the special vaccination campaign and two mobile teams would work in each union council for door-to-door vaccination. At least 528 teams in Lahore, 566 teams in Faisalabad, 224 in Gujranwala, 250 in Multan, and 356 in Rawalpindi would be formed to administer the vaccine at people’s doorsteps.

Earlier, the Punjab government launched a mobile vaccination service to get the Covid vaccine to under-served communities and ramp up vaccination. The mobile Covid unit aims to reach some of the country’s most vulnerable residents, particularly senior citizens above 80 years of age and people with disabilities, directly in their homes. The service was launched in four cities of Punjab province including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, and Multan.
