PML-N’s MPA arrested after LHC dismisses bail for ‘torturing, abducting’ AC Pakpattan

LAHORE – Law enforcers in the country’s most populous province arrested Member Provincial Assembly Mian Naveed Ali of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz as the Lahore High Court rejects his bail in a case pertaining to abduction and torture on Pakpattan Assistant Commissioner Khawar Bashir.

Ali was apprehended from outside the courtroom after Justice Shahram Chaudhry of LHC canceled the bail plea of the provincial lawmaker. The accused was booked last year in November when police lodged a case against the MPA and his father among others for torturing the assistant commissioner besides hurling abuses at the public administrative officer.

It all started when the AC Pakpattan sealed a marquee owned by Ali for flouting Covid rules. The officer also imposed a fine of Rs50,000 for beaching strictly imposed SOPs after which Ali along with the guards manhandled him.

Last year in December, the court initially granted interim pre-arrest bail and ordered the accused to join the investigation. The arrest comes after the investigating officer informed the court that the custody of the accused is required by the police. The cops then held him and shifted him to the police station.

Ali, while speaking with media reporters outside court premises, refused to comment on the court’s remarks. In the short clip, he can be heard saying ‘Allah SWT does injustice to no one‘.

Earlier, Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar also took notice after the incident garnered attention. The incumbent CM said that government will not tolerate any cases of violence against government employees and such incidents will be treated equally.

Meanwhile, the legal team of Mian Naveed denied all accusations and contended that the whole incident is a grudge against their client for not entertaining AC in the marquee.

Let it be known that the 33-year-old got re-elected from PP-192 Pakpattan-II in the 2018 general polls.  He has served as Executive Member, Rahim Yar Khan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and served as Parliamentary Secretary for Labour and Human Resources in the previous regime of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz.
