Pakistan-origin Dr. Kamal Munir appointed as Pro-VC Cambridge University

LONDON: Pakistani origin Dr. Kamal Munir wins platitudes for the nation as he has been appointed Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Cambridge University for the first term of three years.

The Cambridge University in a statement issued said, Munir, who has been associated with the Cambridge Judge Business School for the last 2 decades, will assume his charge from October 1. Cambridge currently has five pro-vice-chancellors work as a team with the Heads of the Schools, the Registrary, the Chief Financial Officer, and other senior colleagues, to ensure that the varsity maintains its role in contribution and gaining academic standing.

Expressing gratitude over the appointment, the fellow of Homerton College also took to Twitter to share his take. ‘I am overwhelmed by all the messages of support and love that so many of you have sent from around the world. I look forward to your support in making Cambridge a more dynamic, progressive, and supportive place for all as well as a catalyst for wider change’, he captioned the post.

Dr. Munir succeeds Professor Eilis Ferran as Pro VC of Institutional and International Relations this year. He has a lot to contribute in the sector as the university has seen a significant increase in work in this area over the last years.

He has also worked as a consultant for the State Bank of Pakistan, the World Bank, and the Asian Development Bank. He also trained several leading organizations including McKinsey & Co; Shell Petroleum; and British Telecom.

The British Pakistani academic is also a visiting Professor in Economic Sociology at Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) Pakistan, where he also served as Dean of Humanities and Social Sciences in 2015-16.
