‘Ocean on Fire’ – Massive ring of flames breaks out from pipeline burst in the Gulf of Mexico (VIDEO)

MEXICO CITY: Massive inferno spotted on the Yucatan peninsula on Friday as an underwater pipeline of a state-owned oil company experienced a gas leak.

Reports in international media cited that the blaze erupted in an undersea pipeline that connects to a platform at Pemex’s flagship Ku Maloob Zaap.

With the gas leakage, a giant ring of flames erupted on the ocean’s surface around 5:15 AM which was later doused by 10:30 AM. Mexican news outlets shared clips of boats spraying streams of water on the giant fire circle to extinguish the blaze having a circular shape. Nitrogen was used to douse the fire, per reports.

A report quoting the head of Mexico’s oil safety regulator Angel Carrizales cited that ‘the incident did not generate any spill’ while the official did not explain what was burning on the water’s surface.

Meanwhile, the state-owned oil company, which has a long record of industrial accidents, claimed that no causalities or injuries were reported and that production was also not affected by the inferno.

Soon after the incident, clips of the ‘Eye of Fire’ took social media on fire as a large number of social media users shared the clip of the unusual incident. Let it be known that the leaked channel is the county’s most crucial pipeline that produced at least around 726,000 barrels of oil per day.
