No more domestic travel for unvaccinated people from Aug 1: NCOC

ISLAMABAD – As the country’s Covid tally crossed the grim 1-million figure amid the fourth wave of Covid pandemic, the country’s nerve center on Covid has made vaccination certificates mandatory for all passengers of domestic flights from the start of next month.

A recent tweet on the official handle of NCOC reads that all passengers will be required to submit their Covid-19 vaccination certificates in order to travel within the country from August 1.

NCOC also urged all citizens to get inoculated at the earliest in order to enjoy hassle-free travel.

In the meanwhile, travelers boarding abroad flights, foreign nationals, and those avoiding vaccination owing to a reaction in the body would be exempted to get a Covid vaccination certificate. Furthermore, those having a COVID vaccination certificate from abroad can also travel without a NADRA certificate.

Earlier, the Civil Aviation Authority asked all employees to get them vaccinated by end of July due to a surge in cases owing to Delta variant spread.

The NCOC chief Asad Umar also revealed that there were clear signs of the fourth wave of Covid-19 starting in Pakistan, primarily due to the arrival of the Indian variant, slow vaccination besides negligence toward Covid SOPs.

“2 weeks back I had tweeted that our artificial intelligence models are showing possible emergence of 4th wave. Now there are clear early signs of 4th wave starting,” he wrote on his official handle.

Most of the cases amid the fourth Covid wave are reported in Sindh province as the Sindh government decided to take stringent measures to stem the deadly disease.

In another bid to fasten the vaccination drive, the Sindh authorities decided to approach the federal government to block the mobile phone SIMs of those who had not yet received the vaccine yet.

Furthermore, the salaries of those government employees will also be not cleared without showing Covid vaccination certifictae. The provincial officials also agreed to impose a ban on wedding ceremonies and other gatherings as well as closing down shrines. The timings of shopping malls and markets have also been slashed to minimize the spread.

In the meantime, the national tally of Covid cases reached 53,623, while the positivity rate in the country stands at 4.89 percent. NCOC portal further stated that the number of deaths from Covid has reached 22971 and the total number of cases has passed the 1 million mark.
