Hazrat Ali ibne Abi Talib (A.S) was born on 13th of Rajab according to the Islamic calendar to the family of Banu Hashim of the house of Quraish.
People celebrate the day by holding processions (jalsa/mehfil e Mola Ali) at their homes or nearby mosques. During the procession people are told about Hazrat Ali’s life and his sayings. Intellectual gathering also take place where discourses about the Imam’s life is done.
At the end of the day, a cake cutting ceremony is arranged in accordance with the birth celebration. The cakes are usually of 100-150 pounds to cater a good number of people.
The day is also celebrated by praying and exchanging of gifts and flowers.
Hazrat Ali (A.S) was the son-in-law and cousin of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and the fourth caliph of Islam. He was a fighter, scholar, philosopher and a renowned leader of the Muslim world.
He was the maternal cousin of the last Prophet of Islam and also the 4th caliph. Hazrat Ali was married to the last Prophet’s (PBUH) daughter Hazrat Fatima and had Hassan and Hussain.
