Manchester United stars Paul Pogba, Amad Diallo wave Palestinian flag amid genocide in Gaza

TRAFFORD: Manchester United Muslim stars Paul Pogba and Amad Diallo Tuesday showed support with oppressed Palestinians following the Premier League match against Fulham.

The duo publicly displayed the Palestinian flag as the Jewish state continued ethnic cleansing of Muslims in Gaza which has killed more than 219 civilians, including 63 minors. The intense airstrikes from Israeli forces have wounded more than 1,500 people since it started with the forced eviction of Palestinians from the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in Gaza.

French World Cup winner and central midfielder Paul Pogba waved the Palestinian flag as more than 10,000 fans cheered the stadium to watch the clash between Fulham and Manchester United. Pogba appeared to be given the flag by a fan as he runs through the pitch during the traditional lap of honor.

Taking it to the official Instagram handle, the 28-year-old posted a snap carrying the Palestinian flag. ‘Pray for Palestine, let’s keep our world safe and free from violence’, he captioned the post.

Meanwhile, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer of the English football club also showed support to players’ move. ‘We have players from different backgrounds, different cultures, different countries and we need to respect their views if they differ from someone else’s. If my players think about other things than football, that’s a positive thing, he told a press reporter.

The support from Pogba and Diallo comes after Leicester City pair Hamza Choudhury and Wesley Fofana showed solidarity with Palestinians, who are facing mass killing at the hands of the Israeli armed forces.

According to a media report, a number of football players including Mesut Ozil of Fenerbahce, Inter Milan’s Achraf Hakimi, Manchester City’s Riyad Mahrez, Shkodran Mustafi of Schalke’s, Fiorentina’s Franck Ribery, and Arsenal’s Mohamed Elneny also shared solidarity posts on their official handles.

Besides the soccer world, thousands joined pro-Palestine protests in major European cities including Madrid, London, Berlin, and Paris.
