Make periods comfortable!

It is usually believed in most societies that men possess more courage and power than women but the reality is that women are far stronger than their male counterparts, with some of the researches suggesting that the female advantage in life expectancy has fundamental biological roots making them the stronger sex.

By nature, women hold certain physical and psychological characteristics that make them different from men. However, it doesn’t mean that they are superior or inferior to men.

Among many of the taboos that hamper our society, the culture of silence also veils the subject of menstruation. Most of the people seem only aware of the basic phenomenon but, in reality, they are unaware of that ordeal through which women have to go through.
Apparently, women who seem fine bear a high threshold level of pain without halting the tasks of daily living. Women’s body suffers acute discomfort during menstruation and as the body becomes feeble during monthly shedding it needs to get some rest during the special days – but that is what only medical science suggests as it does not happen [in parts of the world].

Discomfort during menstrual periods mostly stems from dysmenorrheal, an annoying condition that causes menstrual cramps. These are actually very throbbing, aching, and paining cramps that women experience on the lower abdomen area during the special days and vary from mild to severe.

The condition also accompanies some other temporary ailments mostly backache, hip pain, legs, stomach upset, vomiting, and even loose stool.

Despite having all the physical suffering, most women handle such dreadful yet natural situations normally but society needs to improvise itself as there’s a lot of space for improvement that can help women coping it in a more comfortable way.

Even in the age of information, a woman is considered being impure [or even cursed] during these days. India, the second-most populous country, still needs to reconsider the centuries-old norms about menstruation. Menstruating women are isolated as they are even not allowed to enter the kitchen and, in some areas, they are isolated in remote areas [far flung from residence], while in their isolation many women get sexually assaulted. So, society needs to reconsider the adamants norm which states it not less than any curse – in fact, it is just a natural process.

For a minimum, women should be given rest of at least the first three days during her periods, and family members need to play their crucial role by taking the responsibility for some days – particularly the male members.

Men should be educated about handling the situation in a better way so that they can prove themselves as a helping hand to the women.

In some of the cases when menstrual pain is unbearable, women should be given a dose of some pain killer to relieve the symptom. Besides, over-the-counter painkillers, the following are the hacks for periods which women can try during their period days to reduce cramps, and manage the other situation stemmed from bleeding or keeping hygiene.

• Have a cherry juice with parsley in it, very helpful during the period cramps. Cherry juice contains magnesium and ellagic acid which acts as muscle relaxers whereas parsley has vitamin K, C, and beta carotene which helps in reducing the pain.
