Kate honors Queen, Princess Diana with meaningful necklace on Prince Philip’s funeral

LONDON: Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge honored Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Diana in a touching way at the funeral of Prince Philip.

The British royal family member arrived at the funeral donning a four-strand pearl necklace from the Queen Elizabeth II collection.

The 39-year-old presented a model of noble grace at the funeral of Prince Philip Saturday, with a tribute to the Queen and her late mother-in-law wrapped around her neck for good. She wore a pearl choker from Queen’s personal jewels.

Donning in a chic black $2,000 Roland Mouret dress, she chooses a pillbox hat with a net veil. In the year 2018, Kate had worn the same dress at an event.

The four-row royal ornament holds significant importance it was made at the Queen’s request with Japanese pearls given as a gift by the Japanese government.

Queen Elizabeth II used to wear it in the 1980s and 1990s. She was also spotted with some jewel on former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher’s 70th Birthday dinner in 1995.

Besides wearing by her majesty, the late mother-in-law Princess Diana, the mother of William and Prince Harry, also wore the same necklace in 1982. Diana, who used to love pearls, borrowPrincess Dianaed the necklace for a banquet given by Queen Beatrix and Prince Claus of the Netherlands at Hampton Court Palace during the Dutch royal family’s visit to the UK.

It is to be noted that Kate also spotted in the drop pearl earrings that belong to the Queen. The choice of jewels was symbolic.
