Hunza court directs Luxus Resort to reverse ‘illegal’ entry fees ‘for all’ after public outcry

GILGIT: A sub-divisional magistrate of Gojal Hunza has directed the Luxus Hunza Resort, to revoke the entry fee collection as ‘law permits every citizen to any hotel premises free of charge.’

Judge Iqbal Jan, in his remarks, further added that everyone will be allowed to enter Luxus Hunza Resort premises while they need to pay for renting a room, food charges, and other services. The court’s order further cited that the cancellation of fees should be implemented with immediate effect while it also intimidated not to violate the court’s order.

Meanwhile, Luxus Grand Hotel claims that they reversed all charges on their own after an outcry on social media. The luxurious accommodation facility, which offers panoramic lake views earlier used to charge Rs 1000 as the entry fee but charged Rs500 extra from locals coming from Hunza sector.

Locals took on social media on the blatant discrimination against the natives by the hotel administration after which the local courts intervened.

As othernews.pk reached out to Luxus administration, a representative of the resort based in a mountainous valley in the Gilgit-Baltistan region of Pakistan, he confirmed that ‘the hotel has revoked all kind of charges clarifying that the charges were earlier imposed over mischievous behavior of local residents.’

He further added that ‘the extra charges were imposed in a bid to discourage local residents who damaged furnishing and equipment on the property. The locals used to pour in the premises much like a public park’.

It all started with the uproar that stemmed from the enforcement of extra charges – which the court stated illegal now. Local residents took to social media platforms and informed provincial authorities to look into the matter.
