‘The Genius’ Elon Musk reveals in a live show that he has Asperger’s syndrome; what exactly is Asperger’s and what does it do

CALIFORNIA – SpaceX founder and Tesla CEO Elon Musk Saturday revealed that he is suffering from Asperger’s syndrome – a neurodevelopment disorder.

The 49-year-old tech tycoon, who joined the Saturday Night Live, with his family members, said ‘I don’t always have a lot of intonation or variation in how I speak, which I’m told makes for great comedy.’

Adding that ‘he is making history tonight as the first person with Asperger’s to host SNL or at least the first person to admit it,’ he revealed.

Let it be known that it may have been the first of any time since the world’s second-richest person has publicly acknowledged that he has the form of autism.

Musk while talking about his Twitter account on a lighter note said ‘Sometimes after I say something, I have to say I mean that so people really know I mean it.’

Following the claim of Musk, social media users started roasting the business magnate by saying that he should have done his homework before claiming this on national television. Dan Aykroyd actually holds the title as he was diagnosed with the same disorder decades ago and has spoken about it in recent interviews.

What, exactly, is Asperger’s Syndrome?

Asperger’s syndrome is an autism spectrum disorder that affects a person’s social interactions despite having adequate verbal and cognitive expertise.

People with this lifelong condition become obsessive on complex topics. The disorder is named after German doctor Hans Asperger, who first described it in 1944.

The disorder was considered a separate disorder from autism. The affected minors with autism are frequently uninterested in others while individuals with Asperger’s usually acted contrastingly and want to interact with others, but they don’t know how to do it.

The latest study in this regard revealed that the exact cause of this disorder is still unknown but scientists believe that most of the factors hinted at underlying genetics as the prime cause while a number of environmental factors are also believed as triggers of Aspergers’ syndrome.

According to a study of 2015, ASD affects at least 37.2 million people worldwide which makes it about 0.5 percent of the whole population. Interestingly, males are more prone to get affected than females while females are typically diagnosed at a later age.

As for now, there is no single treatment for neurodevelopment disorder, and that due to limited data.
