In a first, Biden nominates Pakistani-origin to serve as Muslim American federal judge

WASHINGTON – For the first time in US history, President Joe Biden has nominated the first Pakistani-American Judge Zahid Nisar Quraishi as a federal judge on the United States District Court for New Jersey.

Quraishi who hailed from Fanwood New Jersey has been a magistrate for three years.

A statement issued by the White House stated that this trailblazing slate of nominees draws from the very best and brightest minds of the US legal profession. Each is deeply qualified and prepared to deliver justice faithfully under our Constitution and impartially to the public, and together they represent the broad diversity of background, experience, and perspective that makes our nation strong.

Quraishi, who born in a Pakistani immigrant house, has graduated in Criminal Justice in the year 1997, and his Juris Doctor degree, the highest law degree, from Rutgers Law School in the year 2000. He also works as an adjunct professor at Rutgers Law School. He also served as a military prosecutor and did deployments for Iraq during his time in US Army.

The U.S Magistrate Judge has also received numerous honors, including the 2019 New Jersey Muslim Lawyers Association Trailblazer of the Year Award.

Pakistani origin is among the first 11 judicial nominees that also include three black women.

In the first week of this month, Pakistani-American Dilawar Syed has also been nominated by US President Joe Biden as the deputy administrator for the Small Business Administration.
