At least 40 Russian, Ukrainian models arrested in UAE over nude balcony shoot

DUBAI – United Arab Emirates law enforcers Sunday held nearly 40 women along with photographers for being a part of the nude photoshoot on the skyscraper which went viral on social media.

The clip that surfaced online depicted a group of naked women having their photo taken on a balcony near Dubai Marina.

According to international media outlets, police didn’t reveal the identity of the arrested women. However, according to the official handle of the Dubai police, a criminal case has been lodged against all arrested and they have been referred to public prosecution for further legal action.

Public debauchery carries a sentence of up to six months in prison and a 5,000 dirham fine (£981) in the Gulf state, the tweet added.

It is to be noted that any person who lives in or visits the UAE is subject to its firm laws as there are no exceptions for anybody including tourists.

On the other hand, Ukraine’s Foreign Office also confirmed the news while a Russian diplomat in the Gulf state mentioned that photographer who filmed the naked women held Russian nationality.

This is not the first time of the arrest of foreigners in the Emirates, the foreign ex-pats make up around 90 percent of the UAE’s population.
